BUSINESS WOMAN
OF THE YEAR
Asma Khan
Darjeeling Express
Asma Khan of Darjeeling Express has won the Business Woman of the Year Award category at the UK Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce & Industry (UKBCCI) Inaugural Business & Entrepreneur Excellence Awards 2016 and Gala Dinner.
Held at the London Hilton Park Lane on Sunday 20th November, the glittering awards ceremony saw Asma win the award in the presence of over 800 guests, made up of dignitaries, VIPs, MPs and prominent members of the business community.
For someone who couldn’t even boil an egg, Asma’s Bengali and North Indian heritage has taken her far indeed in the world of the food business. After finishing her doctorate in British constitutional law in 2012 at Kings College London, Asma decided to follow her heart and learn recipes that had been in her family for four generations – with a rich mix of dishes encompassing North Indian flavours from her father’s side and Bengali ones from her mother’s side. Under the brand name of Darjeeling Express, Asma started doing supper clubs running from her own home and different locations around London with a women only kitchen run by housewives. The icing on the cake came when Asma with her Darjeeling Express business took up a chef’s residency at the Sun and 13 Cantons in Soho from 2015 to March 2016.
