A.K.M.Fazlul Huq – Accountancy

A.K.M Fazlul Huq, who has made quite a name for himself in Accountancy, has won the Business Innovation Award category at the UK Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce & Industry (UKBCCI) Inaugural Business & Entrepreneur Excellence Awards 2016 and Gala Dinner.

Held at the London Hilton Park Lane on Sunday 20th November, the glittering awards ceremony saw Fazlul win the award in the presence of over 800 guests, made up of dignitaries, VIPs, MPs and prominent members of the business community.

With a heritage that dates back nearly 40 years, Fazlul formed the Accountants Association in Bangladesh in 1977and took the role its President until 1992. With various milestones to his credit, Fazlul persuaded officials at ICAB (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh) to allow students to re-sit their final ICAEW exams under the old syllabus with ICAB, as ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales), had introduced a new syllabus. Due to his involvement, more than 100 students became qualified Chartered Accountants, where this may not have been possible without his perseverance & strong will for change. This paved the way for ICAB and ICAEW to work together, benefiting students and qualified Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh, with a wider range of opportunities and without the need to come to the UK. He has also been involved with the Bangladesh Centre and in 1993 he formed the Dahanisafa Degree College in Barisal as a charitable investment.
